Discovering Pixelmator
Aug. 18th, 2011 07:57 pmMy graduation to an actual graphics program began when I listened to Steve Jobs' yearly address to the Mac community. He mentioned a graphics program in the Mac App store that had exploded in popularity since the Mac App store debut. It was called Pixelmator. Unlike Photoshop, it was reasonably priced at $29.99. And for that price, I could use it on every Mac I owned. Even if Pixelmator only did a half-assed job, I was sold! The first thing I did when I got the program was re-did my Queer as Folk Firefox Persona:

I was impressed! Finally I could imput a size for my graphic and the output would actually BE that size, without any cropping! This improved my icons (no more annoying white space) and the things I could make were addictive. I only wish I had found it before I worked for hours on this manip, which maybe I'll try to redo some day:

And these promo banners which I tried to update to the new comm name:
( Last of the old graphics under the cut... )

I was about to discover a new graphics program, but I still didn't do too badly with my old method. The TW Institute banner won second place in a contest at
torchwoodland and is the banner for
twinstitute. Here are also some signature banners I made for fellow participants in Land of Art (
landofart) and for myself in
torchwoodland. And finally, a couple of award banners I made for some Last Author Standing winners.

So, now I was kind of hooked on graphics
Aug. 11th, 2011 11:40 pmI started off using iPhoto to crop my photos, PowerPoint or Keynote to add text and such and then back to iPhoto for cropping the final project. It sufficed for a while, but people were talking about "brushes" and "layers" and I felt left out. Still, I made some stuff. Here are some banners I made for Last Author Standing comms.
